American Buddhist Meditation Temple was founded on March 26, 1996 in Lockwood, California by Phra Phumisiri Phumipanyo and Phra Kittisophonwitet (Luangposettakit) with the support of Buddhist laypeople from Los Angeles. In 1999 the temple was relocated to Santa Barbara, California, on the property of Cal-Orchid. It has been there ever since.

วัดพุทธศาสตร์กาญจนาราม ก่อตั้งขึ้นในวันที่26 มีนาคม ปี 2539 ณ เมืองล๊อควูด แคลิฟอร์เนีย โดยอาจารย์พระภูมิสิริ ภูมิปญฺโญ และท่านอาจารย์เจ้าคุณพระกิตติโสภณวิเทศ (หลวงพ่อเศรษฐกิจ)และญาติโยมจากเมืองลอสแองเจลลิส สหรัฐอเมริกา และต่อมาเมื่อปี 2541 ได้ย้ายมาตั้งอยู่ ณ เมืองซานต้าบาร์บาร่า โดยได้รับความอนุเคราะห์สถานที่ จาก Cal Orchid มาจนถึงปัจจุบัน.

Currently, three Thai monks live on the monastery grounds. The abbot (and official head of the organization) is Ajahn Saen. He lives in Chiang Mai, Thailand at Wat Hnongbua.
